After the tragic sinking of a cargo ship, a solitary lifeboat remains bobbing on the wild, blue Pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a sixteen year-old boy named Pi, a hyena, a zebra (with a broken leg), a female orang-utan and a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger. The scene is set for one of the most extraordinary and best-loved works of fiction in recent years.

Better than the movie, and then some

Pi's ability to explore and embrace three religions, his profound observations on a hasty immigration experience and his courage in surviving a wrecked ship make him a uniquely wise protagonist. But it his ability to weave a story as a way of saving himself; his capacity for imagination and hallucination; his fragile and treasured sanity, that makes this book a beauty beyond mathematical measurement.

Beautiful and compelling

Life of Pi is a beautiful story about tragedy, survival and self identity. It will challenge your beliefs and will have you questioning reality due to the frame narrative. Highly thought provoking. A must read for all.
