Game Ranger in your Backpack is not a conventional field guide in the sense that it will not provide reams of dreary detail on how to identify a particular plant or bird (although it does offer useful pointers of features to look out for).

Rather, this book is intended to substitute the presence of a personal guide or 'game ranger' during visits to the Lowveld region of South Africa. It makes the practical, interpretative information on the most commonly encountered species in the Lowveld, accessible at a glance and eliminates the need to have several different books piled on the seat beside you.

An absolute gem

This book is an absolute gem. I can't believe I only got it now. İt's printed on high quality paper with a nice thick cover. Certainly feels more premium than the price would suggest. İn terms of content it's a great companion for anyone visiting the low veld. A lot of the info is what you would be told on a guided game drive.
A must-buy!

Game Ranger in your Backpack review

If you're a lover of the bush at any level whether it be more of one-and-done style of sporadic hiking or whether you permanently walk around in a safari suit with binoculars dangling from your neck, this is the book for you! This book is easy to read and understand with bite-size factoids and it's written in an engaging and interesting manner, with lots of lovely photos. Highly recommend this book - even to the younger kiddies.
